He was absolutely ready to get off the damn thing. He hated hospitals and the medical ship was one big hospital to him. Mostly he had stayed inside of the small and cramped quarters that were assigned to him. He felt like a lowly Ensign once again crammed in a room like a can of sardines. He followed the simple instructions to make his way to the USS Soval. The gold uniform was yet another problem that has found itself attached to this assignment. Tujav did not care the gold colored uniform, and much preferred his intelligence garb. Strictly speaking Tujav was not accustomed to wearing a uniform at all. With Division he has mostly worked undercover and in the field; no costume was needed for most of his assignments. It wasn't difficult for him to find the Soval's entrance ramp. He crossed the long platform and stepped in line to enter the ship. Being assigned to this ship would be his first ship assignment, and he wasn't being open minded about it at all. He was only giving himself a few months and surely he would be recalled back to Division. "Good afternoon Lieutenant, how can I assist you?" a young woman crewman asked behind a podium who was accepting arrivals to the ship. "I am the newly assigned Security Chief to the Soval. I am here to report to Captain..." the Lieutenant paused and looked down at his PADD to retrieve the Captain's name. "Syuvik." "Yes sir," she tapped a few buttons on the podium and seconds later she looked up at Tujav. You are cleared sir. You may proceed." "Thank you." Tujav entered onto the Galaxy Class starship. Wasting no time he made his way to the bridge to report in to his new commanding officer." (reply none, any) (posted by Calvin Capps) ----- (USS Soval, Ready Room, Captain Syuvik, Day 11, 1514) Sanok departure had been another obstacle in a very obstructed path. After what happened to part of the crew of the Soval, and lack of leadership it created, the sudden departure of Sanok created a huge vacuum in security. With no lieutenant or Lieutenant-Commander available in the department, his choice to temporarily take command of the security team had been on Lieutenant JG Taleni Grun, an officer who he knew well for having served together on the Soval for the last few months. However, the situation right now was incredibly complicated and as much as Grun was doing a fine job as a security officer, he didn't had the quality to become a chief of security. He still lacked the experience and the leadership to assume such a important function on a Galaxy-class ship. While he knew the decision would not be taken well by Grun, it was logical in the circumstance to get a new chief of security from the outside. Not only would it also prevent any potential complain, since the crew of the Starfire and the Soval still identified to their previous group, the new chief being from neither, but Syuvik also thought having someone with special knowledge and skill for the mission at hand. After having checked a long list of potential candidate, Lieutenant Tujav Vlaklor was the most logical candidate for the position. The lieutenant had already arrived on the station and the ship to meet him. So without loosing much time, he welcomed him inside his ready room. "Lieutenant Vlaklor, I acknowledge the difficulty of being newly assigned as a chief of security on a new ship in a middle of a mission and I understand you didn't really had time to prepare for the mission. The situation ask for immediate leadership on the ground, so it was necessary to proceed this way." Syuvik started. Better explain things right away before starting. He continued "As customary in the culture of many species, I welcome you to the USS Soval. I assume you have read the files I have sent you on your way to this station. Do you have any question on the current Soval's mission?" (Reply Vlaklor) (Posted by Nick) ----- (USS Soval, Ready Room, Lieutenant Vlaklor, Day 11, 1516) "Lieutenant Vlaklor, I acknowledge the difficulty of being newly assigned as a chief of security on a new ship in a middle of a mission and I understand you didn't really have time to prepare for the mission. Do you have any question on the current Soval's mission?" Tujav stood at attention as his new Captain welcomed him to the ship. "Thank you sir," he began. His mind was only halfway thinking about what the Captain was saying. His focus was still on the size of the rooms on the ship. They were all so small compared back to the Intelligence offices. He didn't like it one bit. "Uh, yes sir. I have read the files, but unfortunately they only went up until last night. I need an update on the success or failure of Ensign Signos' infiltration." (reply Syuvik) (posted by Calvin Capps) ----- (USS Soval, Ready Room, Captain Syuvik, Day 11, 1519) "Uh, yes sir. I have read the files, but unfortunate they only went up until last night. I need an update on the success or failure of Ensign Signos' infiltration." said the new Soval Chief of Security. "They got through. However, to gain access to the antimatter reactor, they sacrificed the only way out, the Government Gate. Quezalth security has considerably increased at the Gate, so we have no way to send any more people and we are not sure yet how they are going to come back. In short, for the moment, they are on their own. We can contact them, but we are on communication silence. We wouldn't want to risk giving up their position. They should report back at 1600. Your two main objectives, as for this moment, are to insure the security of the Soval installation in the Capital, and to device a way to rescue our away team if needed. You have the latest report here. It will be important you get down there as quickly as possible. In fact, I will be accompanying you on the surface. There is no more need for me on this station or on a docked ship, and with both my FO and 2O separated from the group, I will assume command from the ground." Syuvik ordered, waiting to see if his new Security Chief would have something against his CO going on the surface. With the exception of the marines, security officers were normally the most prone to obey orders without questioning. It was also a test to see what kind of officer he was. (Reply Vlaklor) (Posted by Nick) ----- (USS Soval, Ready Room, Lieutenant Vlaklor, Day 11, 1521) Captain Syuvik explained a little further about the situation from the previous night, and he also revealed what Tujav's purpose was to be from this moment on. Tujav continued to stand at attention as his superior officer was speaking, and believing there was important information being given he was actually paying attention. "In fact, I will be accompanying you on the surface. There is no more need for me on this station or on a docked ship, and with both my FO and 2O separated from the group, I will assume command from the ground." Syuvik surprisingly said. Tujav's ears peaked at the last statement from the Captain, but for probably a different reason than most other Starfleet officers. "Very well sir, I am ready now, I am at your disposal," Lieutenant Vlaklor explained as he simultaneously thought ~I love it when a CO gets their hands dirty!~ (reply Syuvik) (posted by Calvin Capps) ----- (USS Soval, Ready Room, Captain Syuvik, Day 11, 1525) "Very well sir, I am ready now, I am at your disposal," said the Lieutenant. The answer already gave him a good idea what to expect from his new Chief of Security. "Then get ready for departure in seven minutes, shuttlebay 1. We need to be on the surface when Matrix's away team will report back." simply added Syuvik. As his chief was dismissed, Syuvik took a last look at the report on the surface from his FO and went to the bridge. With most of his senior officers on the surface, there weren't many senior officer left on board. "Lieutenant Tholax, related to our previous conversation.... you have the bridge." Normally, lot of responsibilities would come with such orders, but with the USS Soval docked to the Medical Station, and no way for the USS Soval to give any immediate assistance to the away team, the Lieutenant was pretty much left with the job of babysitting the ship. Yet, it was nonetheless needed to have an officer ready to leave dock and lay assistance if needed. (reply none, any) (posted by Calvin Capps) ----- (USS Soval, Deck 4, Lieutenant Vlaklor, Day 11, 1530) Tujav walked down the corridor taking in the interior of the ship. He of course had been on ships before, but he had never been assigned to a ship, so his thoughts and emotions about the interior of this ship were different. Whispering to himself so others who passed by couldn't hear him he would make small comments. "This was a really bad idea." A ship assignment seemed so confined to him. He was used to working in the field, in the open, and mostly by himself, on his own. It was going to be a major change for him. "Its so cramped in here, luckily my first mission is an away one." He walked up to a small weapons room on the deck to prepare himself for his departure. The doors granted him access and he walked in. A young enlisted crew member was manning the room. Tujav cleared his throat to make his presence aware. The crew member looked up at the sound and saw a large green Orion standing before him. It was a man he did not recognize and immediately became suspicious of his presence. However he did notice the two gold pips on the mans throat and approached him with caution. "Good evening sir, how can I help you." "Yes, I am about to go down to the surface and I need a security standard away mission kit." "That is very doable sir. If you would please input your credentials in the wall monitor I will go get those items for you." The crew member pointed to where Tujav should interact with the computer, and he went behind a counter to retrieve a hand held phaser and belt in the lock up. Tujav stepped over to the console and began putting in his credentials. After pushing a couple of commands in the computer he spoke, "Vlaklor, sierra sierra echo three three." The crew member returned with a smile on his face. "Sir, welcome aboard the USS Soval. It is a pleasure to meet you." While the crew member was getting the hand held phaser, and double checking the Lieutenants clearance he clearly had been informed that the man in front of him was the new Security Chief. "Here are the items you were asking for." He handed over the belt and small phaser." Tujav looked at the items being handed to him and gave a small scow, "Is this it?" "Yes sir, this is a standard kit," the crew member answered with confusion. ~I'm used to more gadgets than this. This whole ship crew thing is going to be harder than I thought I think.~ "Of course it is." He took the belt and quickly put it on. He then checked the phaser. "Thank you," Tujav simply said in the end and turned to walk out of the room and headed to Shuttlebay one." Even so he made no intentional movement to rush his presence. It had taken him longer than expected to get down to the shuttlebay. Once he was inside the room he took a look around. This room was more like it. It was huge and open. Of course it had to be to hold its contents, but never the less it made him feel more comfortable. As he looked around he also looked for the presence of his Commanding Officer. (reply Syuvik) (posted by Calvin Capps) ----- (USS Soval, Shuttlebay One, Captain Syuvik, Day 11, 1538) In the shuttle, Syuvik was reviewing the plan of the Quezal Capital with the location of their different teams and installations. There were a lot of people down on the surface, which was hard to coordinate. This mission was difficult. The information he was provided by his superiors were minor at best. Actually, he had the impression they were the one hoping for information. Everyone was in the dark not knowing what was really happening down there. Syuvik couldn't quite put his finger on it, but there was that impression that while the surface seemed rather uneventful, a lot where hidden from their eyes. That was one of the reason why he had chosen Lieutenant Taleni Grun to supervise the military team on the surface. Being a Betazoid, Syuvik had hoped he could detect things himself couldn't. But the Quezalth remained a mystery even to him. Vulcan normally based their decision on the most likely scenario. In this case, there were more indication the mission would continue going as it was going, and therefore, there was nothing yet suggesting to change the strategy of their deployment and mission on the surface. Yet, Syuvik wondered if the odds of things getting more complicated were significant enough to start preparing for a completely different scenario. The problem was, which scenario to expect. He had no idea, and that was the reason of the uneasiness he was feeling. His mind couldn't be at peace knowing there were so much imponderable. As he was thinking, he realized his new security chief was exploring the surrounding. "Lieutenant, judging from your movement, you seem not entire comfortable. Am I mistaken to presume so?" he said, hoping to get even more insight into his new security chief. (Reply Vlaklor) (Posted by Nick) ----- (USS Soval, Shuttlebay One, Lieutenant Vlaklor, Day 11, 1540) Tujav sat in one of the shuttle's chairs and began to go through the prelaunch process of shooting out of the Soval. While pushing command buttons his new Captain looked at him and spoke an odd and unexpected question. "Lieutenant, judging from your movement, you seem not entire comfortable. Am I mistaken to presume so?" he said, hoping to get even more insight into his new security chief. Lieutenant Vlaklor looked at his Commanding Officer with a surprised expression momentarily. "No sir, I am fully capable of piloting this shuttle craft." As his answer left his mouth his mind began to race. Thoughts of his day played back, and he knew that Captain Syuvik wasn't talking about the prelaunch process but was rather speaking about his new duty station assignment. "Oh," the big green male figure said. "Yes sir, in fact I am having some concerns of my new assignment. This is a new direction for my career. I hope that I have not stepped on anyone's toes?" (reply Syuvik) (posted by Calvin Capps) ----- (USS Soval, Shuttlebay One, Captain Syuvik, Day 11, 1544) "Oh... Yes sir, in fact I am having some concerns of my new assignment. This is a new direction for my career. I hope that I have not stepped on anyone's toes?" his security chief replied to his question. Syuvik rose an eyebrow at the officer comment. "If you had forced your way to the position, that may have been so, but since you have been assigned by Starfleet Command following my request, you are where you should be and it would therefore be illogical to consider this position is not yours but belong to someone else. Moreover, since the position is yours, you cannot walk on the toes of those under your command, since you are their superior. This being said, those who had an eye on the position will be disappointed, but their potential jealousy and potentially making your life more difficult would not be professional. If that was the case, it is the right for someone in your rank and position to reprimand them. So, to use your expression, the only toes you could wrongfully walk on are those of your superiors. And if you do, you will know long before you even have the time to ask that question." Syuvik explained. "Now, I will add lieutenant that this mission is too critical to have a security chief who hesitates. When this shuttle land, I expect all your doubts to be put aside and for you to carry your duty decisively." (Reply Vlaklor) (Posted by Nick) ----- (USS Soval, Shuttlebay One, Lieutenant Vlaklor, Day 11, 1545) "And if you do, you will know long before you even have the time to ask that question." Syuvik explained. Tujav listened to the long winded answer that he received from Captain Syuvik. Never the less he got the answer he wanted, and his new superior officer obviously showed that Lieutenant Vlaklor could be an important asset to the Soval, and that made Tujav's spirit about his new job better. Just as Tujav thought that Syuvik was done he continued, "Now, I will add lieutenant that this mission is too critical to have a security chief who hesitates. When this shuttle lands, I expect all your doubts to be put aside and for you to carry your duty decisively." "Aye sir, you can trust that my head will be in the right place," Tujav said. As he continued to poke at the different controls of the shuttle he thought back to a couple of his field operations. They had all required quick and decisive choices, and many times they were under extreme pressure not to get caught. Of course the major difference is that he always worked alone. Here, he was going to be working with a team. (reply none, Syuvik iwy) (posted by Calvin Capps) ----- (Quezal, Reactor Area, Commander Matrix, Day 11, 1550) Matrix and the away team made their way from the government building to the outskirts of the antimatter reactor, but their journey wasn’t without incident. The few Quezalth they encountered wouldn’t know what had happened to them for some time…several hours if the doctor was correct. They would awake with symptoms of radiation poisoning which they would hopefully equate to their proximity to the reactor. Matrix motioned the team to find cover as the main entrance to the reactor was close. A number of guards and workers were visible outside the entrance with many who appeared to be wearing protective gear. Matrix asked Anderson to scan for contaminants in the air, and ground as they observed the activity ahead. Scanning the area with his tricorder, Matrix could get a limited view of the reactor and the terrain layout of the immediate area, but nothing beyond the main entrance. The suits and materials stacked outside the entrance gave him reason to pause. They were not equipped to inspect a potentially hazardous area without exposing themselves to lethal radiation or other toxins. “Tom split the team up and see if you can’t get a better idea of what’s going on up there and the number of Quezalth there are and other opportunities to get into the reactor area. I’m going to see if I can contact the Soval and let them know we’re at the reactor.” said Matrix as he moved several meters away from the reactor in an attempt to contact the Soval. “Matrix to Syuvik…we’ve arrived at the reactor. Assessing options, but there is a large group of Quezalth in the area. Scan data should be relaying to you within moments.” (Reply Jackson, any in the away team, Syuvik) (Posted by Steve) ----- (Quezal, Reactor Area, Dr. Andersen, Day 11, 1557) As she was following the group to the reactor, despite her best effort at being attentive to the mission at hand, Ailyn's thoughts could stop wondering off. Her thoughts were directed to Taylor....to the wonderful morning she had spent. She could still remember the taste of her lips on hers and the pure sensation of pleasure and love she felt. All her life she had waited such moment. And now, she couldn't stop but wishing it happened every day. She was such in love with Taylor. She was such in love she wondered how far she will go for her. She wondered if she would be ready to leave everything behind for her if she asked. Love was a strange thing... Taylor had seemed weird lately... and even after that morning, she disappeared for several days... No words from her. But it was all washed away by that wonderful morning. The most important was how happy they were when they were together...and how much they loved one another. Her thoughts also wondered off to what she had asked her to do. At first, what Taylor asked her was something she couldn't do. Even if she trusted and loved Taylor, it would be playing in the back of her friends on the Soval. Even more, it would actually be hurting them, betraying them even. Despite how much she loved Taylor, that was something she couldn't do. Luckily, Taylor understood and her second proposition was much more reasonable. What she asked her to do, at least, wasn't anything bad done against her crewmates and friends. It was something that seemed rather inoffensive. And there was absolutely no risk carrying it. She was so much in love with Taylor, she figured doing her that services was the least she could do to thank her for that wondering morning. And if she did it, Taylor would have no choice but to come see her again... she so wanted to have her lips pressed against hers again.... And so, she carried it out. (Reply none) (Posted by Nick) ----- (Quezal, Reactor Area, Commander Matrix, Day 11, 1558) Matrix moved back to the team after dispatching an update to the Soval. The Quezalth at the entrance of the reactor and visible areas were leaving...perhaps a shift change? thought Matrix. Seizing the opportunity, Matrix ordered the teams to move up and get a closer look. "Lieutenant Signos...you and one other scan the surrounding area of the reactor. Get as much information as you can. Watch for radiation and don't take any unnecessary risks? Don't get discovered...understood?" ordered Matrix. Matrix pondered the outer shell of the reactor area...all external sides appeared to be equally damaged. No visible sign of an explosion or the tattletale signs of explosive materials. Almost as thought it was an implosion of some sort. Matrix's tricorder didn't have any solid results. Inside the reactor area showed significant damage, but in all of Steve's experience as an engineer he couldn't account for the damage inside and out...nothing made sense. There wasn't enough debris suggesting a collapse from the rock. "Tom...my scans show nothing definite. I've never seen a reactor fail like this before. What do you make of it?" asked Matrix. Matrix continued to move around the interior of the reactor area...scanning and surveying as much as possible. He took great care in making visual recordings of the area as well, the tricorder had ample memory, but he was pressing the processors to their limits, storing multiple scan telemetry simultaneously. They had been able to identify several thousands Quezalth who died in the explosion, and people where on their way to tell their family. The shuttle ride went smoothly, and the two officers landed without conflict. As they did so Tujav took the opportunity to get a good idea of the layout of the installation and its surrounding area. Moments after they landed the Security Chief shut down the shuttle, and then allowed an engineer to take control of it. Once he stepped out of the shuttle he realized that the Captain had already been speaking with the first officer, Commander Matrix. "Normally I would say yes but we don't have that luxury. Based on the report I am reading right now, we have to prepare for the worst. I do hope you are good at reading maps because I don't think you have the time to visit the city." Syuvik said. As the two were now inside the Soval command installation on the planet, Syuvik activated on what was a rudimentary pool table, a map of the city. "Lieutenant Grun and a team of marine have taken position at this location." pointing at the center of the residential area just next to the government building. "They are ready to intervene to extract Matrix's team if things go badly. We have also security officers escorting the medical and science staff in different areas of the city. But that was in the report so you already know that. It is now a likely possibility that the use of force, even if it was only stun, will turn the Quezalth population against our presence. Preparing for the worst would be a logical step. The probability of being expelled from the planet are less than 30% but rising. This mean, we need to be prepare for a safe evacuation of the site as it is now a possible outcome. That and supervising the team of Lieutenant Grun are you two priorities. A lower priority will be to assess and make changes to the current security deployment. I would prefer to continue our medical work in the city, yet the security of all the personnel is paramount, so if we need an increase in the number of security officers escorting them, that is now become your responsibility to evaluate. I want your proposal of deployment for a possible evacuation as soon as possible, and preferably before 1800. Reflecting on the mission and looking around for the last time, Matrix noted the reactor area. It was a mystery to a seasoned engineer, the area was obviously impacted by some sort of failure or sabotage, but he couldn't account for the damage outside the reactor. It was uniform and consistent around the entire parameter. Hopefully the scans picked up something of significance. Pausing, Matrix realized the smell. It reminded him of Earth, the smell of wet dirt, rock and sediments, but something else was in the air. Almost a sweet smell...almonds he thought, but dismissed it. Maybe oil, unrefined oil? Nonetheless something wasn't right. "Okay, lets move out... back to the Soval Installation." ordered Matrix. (Reply Jackson, Syuvik, any on the away team) (Posted by Steve) ----- (Quezal, Reactor Area, Ensign Signos, Day 11, 1809) The mission so far was one dead end after another. Has the team gathered to had to make there way back to the governmental complex. The team moved and nothing seemed to be happening. Everything at the reactor seemed to point to a core meltdown in all the 4 reactors. While the two reactors at the back seemed slightly less damaged, they had all meltdown. But something still didn't feel right. It still wasn't a wasted trip. Maybe once they were back at the Soval command area and get the information analyzed they could find some hint to what was actually going on. It was then that she saw movement from behind the group. "Contacts rear." She yelled. Has a disruptor blast cut though the air next to her head. "It was then the Marines yell "Contacts front." It was then Jessica knew exactly why they were left alone to reach the reactor. The Quealth had moved them into a pincher movement and now was forcing them to fight on to fronts. "Push forward we have to break the front line before the rear attachment closes on us." Jessica yelled, as she shouldered her phaser and fired into the advancing troops. (Reply any) (Posted by Matthew Locke) ----- (Quezal Tunnels, Ensign Signos, Day 11, 1813) With the arrival of Quezalth military the team with in the tunnels pace had slowed considerably. But they were still moving. Jessica credited that to the narrow tunnels that limited the movement of the larger force. They would in time be over run, Jessica knew that for a certainty. The question was could they escape before then. "Any federation craft on this channel respond we need extraction hostile forces closing on our current location." Jessica spoke into her comm on the secure frequency that the team was using. Firing her phaser she drilled a charging Quezalth solder and watched him fall to the floor. She did not envy the headache he was gonna wake up with or any that fell before her. She fired keeping a constant and at a even pace. Her goal wasn't nessessary to stun all the attacking Quezalth. But to halt thier advance long enough for the team to make thier escape. The team moved down another tunnel this one more narrow than the last. Being lead by the marines in the front Jessica followed hoping that they had found some way to give the enemy advance the slip. It was now time to report directly to his superior. =/\= So, Captain, what is your progress in the investigation of the explosion? =/\= asked Commodore Larsson. "I have reviewed the report of my First Officer. The probability of a sabotage has decreased considerably with these new evidences. There is no sign of any bomb on the reactor. What is puzzling however, is the fact the damage done to the reactor reveal damage to the exterior almost uniformly. It is possible the explosion of the Aeghon contained within the planet crust, could have caused a chain reaction which could explain it. A more thorough examination of the evidence will be carried on the Soval. We will know more on what we must conclude from these evidences then. I am sending you the report right now." =/\= I will read your report attentively Captain. As for the Romulan theory, is it more or less likely now? =/\= continued the Commodore. "I will not comment on what could have motivated Vice-Admiral Thinn theory of their involvement. What I can comment, however, is the fact I have seen nothing so far suggesting any Romulan involvement. If they wanted to impact our investigation negatively, their presence would have been likely necessary. Taking into account our previous experience of the Romulan capacity to mount cover operation successfully, this statement is in no way conclusive of their non involvement. Therefore, I would not decrease or increase the probability of the Romulan involvement in spite of this new evidence." Syuvik reflected. =/\= Acknowledged =/\= "If I may ask, sir, any new information related to the Quezalth cooperation?" asked Syuvik. =/\= I am afraid none. I know it is not an easy mission, but again, we are relying on you to provide us with the intelligence we need. We had some support from some of the leaders of the Quezalth refugees here on the station, but I believe you will concur the impression I have that another group is forming. =/\= replied the commodore. "It is still too soon to confirm or infirm this theory, but it is a sound one. With most of the civilian gone or on the station, this has allowed the military and Quezalth security to remain on the planet and gain some valuable support. Based on my Tactical officer report, they seem to be receiving orders, so the military and security are still working has a group. What are there intention, I cannot say. But based on their sudden refusal to let us enter and investigate the government area, it would be logical to assume they do not see our presence positively. They haven't suggested so far they would commit any hostile action towards us, but considering their lack of collaboration and if they do are gaining support, it could make our mission here much more difficult. It already has to the point we were forced to use more coercive and less friendly tactics to be able to carry on our mission. So far, it is still easy controllable, but if we need to continue using such tactics, the situation could degrade quickly, which must be prevented. Hopefully, the information gathered by my first officer and his team will provide us with what is needed to prove our innocence before it reach that point." said Syuvik, with the normal Vulcan honesty and composure. =/\= I do hope so too, Captain. It's a time bomb and better disarm it before it explodes. =/\= "A sound comparison, sir." Syuvik commented. =/\= I am afraid Captain, that with what you just said, you won't like what I am about to tell you.... I have received a request from some of those Quezalth leaders on the station. They want to return to the planet and sees your work. I understand this could complicate your investigation and work, but since there might be a political competition being played out right now, and considering the lost of support we had from their side, I can't see myself denying their request. In fact, I even think it could help. They will see what we are doing. =/\= said the Commodore. The fact he didn't give an order, but rather made it a suggestion revealed to Syuvik, Commodore Larsson was probably as hesitant as he was. Having to deal with civilian in the middle of a crisis was always difficult. Yet, he also understood the predicament they were in. "Agreed sir. I will receive them." Once the conversation over, Syuvik exited his office and signaled to Lieutenant S'yes and Lieutenant Vlaklor to come to his [improvised] office. "Lieutenant. We will be receiving the visits of Quezalth delegates from the station. They are among the leaders of the survivors who have shown the strongest support to our presence and involvement. They come here to see what we are doing here. Lieutenant S'yes, I want you to supervise their transport from the station to here, and once here, I want you to make sure they have everything they need. In other words, you are in charge of their visit. " (Reply S'yes) "Lieutenant Vlaklor, I want you to supervise the security aspect of their visit. Despite the situation here, we need to accommodate them as much as we can. But if there are location you believe would be too risky, I let it to your judgement to decide which site is safe enough and which isn't, and make sure to instigate the proper security measure everywhere they go." (Reply Vlaklor) (Posted by Nick) ----- (Quezal Capital, Soval Installation, Commander Matrix, Day 11, 1823) Matrix and the away team made their way back to the Soval Installation, but at great cost. Nothing short of a formal inquiry would be brought to bear on his actions earlier, but he still had a mission to perform and his priority rested with his crew, the Soval and the mission. As they entered the temporary Federation complex he gave orders to the away team to report what they had seen while gathering scans and physical information on the reactor. Matrix would report the incident directly to the Captain as soon as he could. "Tom...please ensure that these tricorders and any physical evidence collected get turned over to the Soval forensics...but keep a verified copy. I think something else is going on here and I don't want what we found tossed away or buried. Understood?" asked Matrix. Matrix made his way over to Lieutenant Crenshaw who was unloading his gear into one of the lockers. "Peter, sorry to put you through that, but given the circumstances it was our only option." Said Steve quietly. Crenshaw turned, "Service in Star Fleet comes with risks, I understand what you did and I don't fault you in any way Steve. I've known you for too long to know you did your duty and you hated to put me or any of your team in jeopardy...but it had to be done. I'm thankful that it turned out the way it did." replied Crenshaw. "Thank you Peter. I best find the Captain." said Matrix. (Reply Jackson, any) (Posted by Steve) ----- (Quezal Capital, Soval Installation, Commander Matrix, Day 11, 1853) The Captain wasn't immediately available so Matrix dispatched his report via a PADD, then found quiet spot and entered his log of the past few hours. "First Officer's Log. This stardate. Upon close investigation of the reactor area, both inside and out the away team hasn't come to any conclusions. We are just not equipped with the necessary gear in this instance to make a determination. From an engineering perspective, I've not encountered anything like this. The reactor shows signs of having been damaged both in and outside in almost equal levity. It would be conceivable that an internal explosion facilitated a chain reaction that caused the external support structure to endure the blast shock, but there is no immediate evidence of a bomb of any type. Tricorder scans are inconclusive. I've instructed Commander Jackson to relay all the scan recordings from the entire away team to the forensics teams on board the Soval. It is with regret that I have to report the death of one Quezalth citizen. During our investigation of the reactor, a Quezalth worker, police or military individual came back to the reactor for some unknown reason and stumbled upon myself and Lieutenant Peter Crenshaw. We were scanning the interior of the reactor on the far side of the main entrance when the Quezalth individual discovered us and attempted to fleet. The individual fell just outside the secondary reactor grid and slid under a partially collapsed column. Lieutenant Crenshaw was closest to the Quezalth and attempted to pull the individual out from under the structure, but the he further distanced himself from us. Peter risked physical injury and death by moving himself closer in an attempt to pull the individual from the structure, but he could not be reached. We told the worker that the structure was likely to collapse and we were not going to harm him and to let us help. As Peter moved back to allow the worker to free himself, the structure gave way. Tricorder scans showed that the nearly 30 metric tons of support structure crushed the Quezalth to death. Peter sustained minor cuts and bruises. It would appear that I will need some stitches myself. There was nothing we could do. We encountered no other Quezalth in or around the reactor. End log." said Matrix. Steve tapped transmit on his PADD. (Reply none) (Posted by Steve) ----- (Quezal Capital, Soval Installation, Commander Matrix, Day 11, 1910) The impact from the first volley was deafening. Everything was moving in slow motion suppressed by the pungent smell smoke and fire. Matrix recognized the situation, but it wasn't helping him cope with the onslaught to his senses. Familiar, yes, but nonetheless unexpected and frightening. Dizzy and uncertain if he was injured he realized he was on the ground and unable to move. Fear had wrecked his nervous system, shock to be sure, or severe injury. He watched as the smoke and debris rolled above the installation. Star Fleet and Quezalth people alike were moving away from the blast chaotically, unorganized and desperate. Meters away Steve pondered the gaping hole in the ground before him, moments ago where he had placed his PADD and gear. It was no longer there, not even pieces. The impact was direct and deliberate. Rolling to his side he managed to stand in silence, the ringing in his ears reminded him he was indeed alive. Slowly he regained his senses then time again moved in real time as he started to move toward the chaos, trying to help move people away. He tapped his comm-badge and tried to raise the Soval. No response. He looked for Tom and anyone in the away team, but he could not immediately locate anyone. Almost as quickly as it began, the smoke and debris settled and faded away. He noted Crenshaw giving orders a fair distance away from where Matrix was standing and he could make out what he thought was the entire away team. Relieved he quickly moved to talk with Peter, now aware that his left arm was not normal. Looking down as he approached Peter, Matrix noticed the flesh torn from his wrist up past the elbow exposing tendons, muscle and bone, but not much bleeding. No pain either. "Peter...is... everyone okay...the away team?" gasped Steve. Peter turned and started to reply to Steve, but the sight of his injury prevented him from responding. Instead Peter yelled out for a medic and sat Steve down and leaned him up against the partial wall still remaining of the installation. There was nothing he could do until the medics arrived. "Steve...stay with me....Commander...." said Peter. Everything went dark. (Reply none, any) (Posted by Steve)
